Weekend musing – a no-rinse car wash with some podcasts

Weekend is a time to take my mind off my primary job of weekdays and focus in other hobbies of my life.

My “outside of work” hobbies have been “watches” and “cars” – this probably shows that I am not the most original person in the world.

Anyways – one side hobby I picked up alongside my interest in cars is car-washing.

A lot of people just pay other people to wash their cars, but I do it myself because of multiple reasons.

I live near a big city so I don’t have a driveway – but if you are lucky enough to have a driveway, i really recommend trying washing your car yourself – for following reasons:

First – it saves money!

It costs a lot to hire anyone these days with labor shortage from covid19. With car washing prices having gone up ($20 or higher now), these dollars add up fairly significantly! With market drawdown, opportunity cost of $ spending went up. I would rather save it so that I have more capital to deploy.

Just buy a couple of buckets, sponge, dry towels, and no-rinse cash wash materials – and you are ready to go!

Second – it is therapeutic!

I take a long time- it takes like one to 1.5 hrs to do the car wash. During that time, I am all alone and I listen to podcasts about random things (mostly about watches though – my recent interest is in Tudor watches, particularly blackbay 58 navy blue. I am just casually washing the car and wiping down dirty plates and listening to podcasts. It is really therapeutic to see how clean the becomes with each wipe – and I am picking up random knowledge about timepieces. It is just great!

Third – it is kind of a workout!

On weekend, many of us bum around all day because we are exhausted from hard work from weekdays. Car wash makes me move around – it is one hour of constant moving – burning calories without realizing it. Because i have a clean car and have workout done, I feel that I had a productive day on a weekend day.

So that was my weekend activity to clear my mind – what do you like to do on weekend to clear your mind? What is in your routine?
